CHARACTERS
Getting to the final character design was a long process. I was testing some ideias while doing the storyboard, and with time I realised that I needed a robust character to tell this story, so the final version of Tom started to come out.
BACKGROUNDS
It was important to me that the film had the International Space Station as background, and was not a made up spaceship floating in space. I was searching for a contrast between reality and fantasy, and also between a small and tight place, like the station, and a robust character like Tom, living in isolation in the vast space.
ANIMATION PROCESS
The animation was a mix of traditional digital animation and cut-out animation, done on Toom Boom Harmony.
POSTER
The final detail was the movie's poster. It is a reference to 1957 Laika's poster.
